By now, we know (almost) all there is to know about the world’s two biggest biking nations.

While Denmark and the Netherlands may seem similar on first sight,

a closer look tells us otherwise:

In Denmark, safety comes first. Danes are happy to wear their helmets, no matter how "silly" it may look, and they follow traffic rules devoutly.

The Dutch, on the other hand, can boast an extensive network of biking paths and a more eventful biking style. They take the initiative on the road and will ignore the occasional red light if it suits them.

However, this adventurism comes at a price, as the Dutch find themselves in the hospital (or worse...) a little more often than they may want to.

Both countries come with their pros and cons. Picking an obvious winner remains difficult and will ultimately always be a matter of personal taste and experience. However, nothing stops us from trying.

Putting all the facts of the matter aside, let’s turn to our highly esteemed opinion panel of biking connoisseurs one more time:

Which of the two biking cultures do they prefer?

To our panel, the answer is clear:

The Netherlands is the preferred biking destination because of its superior biking experience and infrastructure... and most of all, no hills! 🙅

With the 'Year of the Bike' initiative, the Danes are making efforts to step up their biking infrastructure. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Who knows what the panel's verdict will be a few years down the line?

But finally, what do you think?
